We are cleansed when we confess our sins.

We are cleansed when we confess our sins.

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.  But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.  If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
— 1 John 1:8-9

Think it through

  1. What is God’s truth about our human condition?
  2. What does God want us to do concerning our sins?
  3. What does God do in response?
  4. How much wickedness is left in us after God’s grace cleanses us?

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I sin daily and am in need of your constant cleansing from the wicked things I think, say and do.  I confess these things to you right now. (Pause and confess any things the Holy Spirit reveals to you.) I am dependent on your faithfulness, justice and grace to cleanse me and make me pure and holy before you.  Thank you that your grace has accomplished that for me today and is available every day.  Let your words of grace and truth always find a place in my heart.
